Spyros Roukanas is Assistant Professor of International Political Economy at the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus. He graduated from the Department of International Economic Relations and Development of Democritus University of Thrace (2003). He was awarded his Master of Arts in International Political Economy from the University of Leeds (UK) (2004). He was awarded his Ph.D. at the Department of International Economic Relations and Development, Democritus University of Thrace (2008).

He has taught as a Visiting Lecturer at Democritus University of Thrace (Department of International Economic Relations and Development, Department of Agricultural Development and Program of “Post-Graduate Courses in South-Eastern Europe Studies”, Department of Law). He has also taught as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the Aegean (Department of Financial and Management Engineering and Postgraduate Programme in: “Economics and Management for Engineers” at the Department of Financial and Management Engineering).

His main research interests are in International Political Economy and economic development in the countries of Southeast Europe and emerging economies and their relations with the EU.
